My nineteenth year in education is complete. What a year! In honor of each year, please consider these nineteen positives about this year:
- Taught in a 1:1 classroom for the first time. I really enjoyed having access to materials.
- Helped host a book study for my peers…see here at BHS Reads. Just read this in Edutopia’s Summer Rejuvenation Guide: Yet research shows that networking with fellow teachers is time well spent. Yes, I already knew this, but nice to have such confirmation. Nearly every week, I heard, “I just like meeting.”
- Worked with my peers as we continued to contemplate a reform movement…see here at BHS 21CLC.
- Completed my fifth year as a yearbook advisor…what a year! BUT we produced another awesome book.
- Worked with some very inspiring youth. Thank you, parents, for sharing them with me.
- Enjoyed using Web 2.0 tools…still love blogs and wikis!
- Appreciated the opportunity to work with one of my PLN’s on 10 Things.
- Laughed with my peers between classes…great hall buddies I have.
- Participated in NaNoWriteMoPoetry Challenge. So proud of what came out of me during that month.
- Co-hosted a Read-Across-America event with peer Margo Baker. I love her ideas and energy.
- Pushed my Beta Club to compete…and then was disappointed in the Beta leaders in their decision to not cancel State Convention (due to snow storm)…still so proud, though, of how hard my clubbers worked.
- Enjoyed working with our Student Council and attending its State Convention for the first time.
- Attended the Arkansas Curriculum Conference and presented…nice experience.
- Supported several National Board Candidates through the process of submitting their portfolios…still glad to have the process behind me!
- Enjoyed my newly redesigned room…lamps, coffee, more relaxed atmosphere. Sweet!
- Read several novels and professional books…ever-growing.
- Reflected continualy on this blog…my friend.
- Appreciated serving on the 11th Grade Reading Committee for our state department…that position still helps validate who I am and what I truly believe.
- Finally, very proud of my juniors and their scores on the Arkansas End-of-Level Literacy Exam…I believed in them. They rewarded me with success!
Yes, my list could go on and on, for this was a productive year. Already I think of more, but these were the first nineteen that came to mind. Nineteen years…like a dream, like a breeze…so swiftly they pass. I feel so blessed to have a career I absolutely love. Thank you, God.
For what are you most proud upon completing the 2009-2010 academic year?

Tammy–what a great post–I am feeling inspired to write a similar one, though I only have nine years in education myself. Also, what an amazing year you’ve had–some of these accomplishments are definitely ones I want to emulate.
I look forward to reading your list! Happy summer!
